Ortho-Bionomy is a form of somatic bodywork. a gentle and effective treatment to help you recognize imbalances in your body and find relief. Pain is usually a good indicator that something is amiss. During your session, we work together to locate and find ease in areas of discomfort, leading to increased function and comfort in daily life.
The process of a bodywork session begins with a discussion to understand what areas you would like to focus on. This information helps to determine where to start. We then have you get on a massage table (fully dressed) either on your back or abdomen, depending on the areas that need to be addressed. I begin my physical assessment on the areas of concern. If I find a joint or muscle group that does not respond to touch as expected or is tender to the touch, we work together to find a comfortable position where the tension or discomfort is relieved and hold that position for a short time.
When the joints are mobile and there is no resistance or strain in the area, we move to the next area. Many areas can be covered in a single session. Whether you are suffering from a chronic condition or an acute injury, relief is possible with a series of sessions. It can take some time for the nervous system to relearn more appropriate body patterns, so weekly or monthly sessions may be recommended. At home stretches and exercises are usually a vital part of recovery and these will be individualized and discussed with you during your session.
