Nurture Integrative Health Clinic

Meet the Team

Are you located in Portland, Oregon or want to travel to see us in person for naturopathic medical care? Have you tried conventional medicine but haven’t found the answer?

From the moment you step into our office, you’ll notice that this isn’t a typical medical office. We start with a conversation about you and your health.  We listen, and ask questions to connect the dots in your story.  Together, we create a plan to treat the root cause of your symptoms and return to the vibrant health you crave.

We combine conventional and functional labs, imaging, and good old fashioned physical exam to diagnose your health issues.  Then we develop a plan to solve them, which may include nutritional changes and supplementation, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and cutting edge treatments such as biotherapeutic drainage remedies from Europe.

In addition, naturopathic physical therapies such as Mayan Abdominal Therapy, Holistic Pelvic Care, and Craniosacral Therapy will be tailored to fit your specific health needs.

Why naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic care focuses on treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. Treating the symptoms of an illness is like popping a pill whenever you get a headache. The job of the medication is to stop the pain and it does. But then you get another headache a few days later. Why? Because something else is going on that your body is trying to alert you to.

Symptoms are warning signs that something is wrong and the longer they’re ignored, or swept under the rug with a pill, the stronger the underlying condition becomes. We’ll help you discover the underlying causes of your symptoms and work with you to heal your body.

Whether you’ve had a throbbing headache for months, your child has a sniffle, or you just want to know what’s going on in your body, naturopathic primary care can return your body to its natural, healthy rhythms.

Our Experienced Naturopathic Doctors

Dr. Tammy Ashney

I’m a naturopathic physician and medical educator who has been in practice since 2009. After graduating from the National College of Natural Medicine (now the National University of Natural Medicine, NUNM), I completed a three-year CNME-approved residency with a focus on primary care and women’s health.

In addition to seeing patients here at Nurture, I’m full-time faculty as an Associate Professor at NUNM, where I oversee students, interns, and residents in both academic and clinical settings.I previously served as the course director for the Parenteral Therapy and Environmental Medicine course block and currently co-direct the Reproductive Medicine course block in addition to being the faculty senate co-chair.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Virginia, where I studied cultural anthropology and women’s studies, and also completed a post-baccalaureate certificate in early childhood education. I’m a true lover of people of all ages and strive to build meaningful connections, understand my patients’ stories, and help them live their healthiest, most fulfilling lives.

I believe deeply in a holistic, patient-centered approach to medicine and am passionate about providing comprehensive primary and integrative care, with subspecialty expertise in women’s health and environmental medicine.

Outside of work, I enjoy life with my husband of 23 years, our two children, and our beloved fur baby. I love spending time with family and friends, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and curling up with a good book.

Dr. Katie Bennett

I was drawn to naturopathic medicine due to personal health problems that lead to an extended illness, which was promptly and permanently reversed by a short course of herbal medicine. This personal experience was my catalyst to learn and share the art and science of natural medicine with others. I have a love and passion for helping people find the root cause of their health problems and walk with them on their health journey.

My clinical experience has guided me to focus on autoimmunity, hormone and trans-health for adults, digestive issues, and physical medicine. The modalities that I turn to the most are diet and lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine, and a compilation of bodywork combining somatic-reeducation, massage, and manipulation techniques. I also love doing constitutional homeopathy, hydrotherapy and whatever it takes to guide my patients back to a place of comfort and function.

Dr. Tia Meechan Hernandez

As a Naturopathic Doctor, my approach blends holistic therapies such as botanical medicine, pelvic floor therapy, nutrition, and lifestyle counseling with conventional approaches, including pharmaceuticals when appropriate, to support your whole self rather than just a diagnosis or symptom. I approach patient care from an integrative and individualized viewpoint to meet patients where they are at, considering all circumstances that may affect their health and care. I believe that true healing happens when patients can feel seen, heard, and supported for who they are and what they are experiencing.

My goal is that you leave your visits with me feeling cared for, informed, and empowered to make your own healthcare decisions. I’m passionate about working with my patients to help them reach their health goals and build strong foundations for overall wellness.

My clinical focus is in women’s reproductive, hormonal, and sexual health across the lifespan; a specialty I chose after experiencing through loved ones and my own experiences the gaps that exist within the healthcare system for female-bodied individuals. I manage conditions such as PMS/PMDD, endometriosis, PCOS, menstrual concerns, fertility and preconception care, postpartum recovery, pelvic floor & sexual dysfunction, and much more. My practice is inclusive of anyone with a uterus and/or ovaries or who was assigned female at birth and may benefit from my care, regardless of their gender, and I welcome trans and non-binary individuals seeking affirming, compassionate care.

I was lucky enough to know my passion for medicine from a young age, but growing up in the midwest I didn’t know Naturopathic Medicine existed. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine/Health Sciences with contributions from both Purdue University and the American College of Healthcare Sciences, adding courses on nutrition, botanical medicine, and other holistic modalities whenever I could. I later discovered Naturopathic Medicine when applying for medical schools in Oregon, and it aligned with my values and ideals of what medicine should look like; empowering, holistic, and working towards a healthcare system that honors the individual. I then earned my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon, where I had the honor of serving as the commencement speaker for clinical programs.

Throughout my training, I focused on integrative women’s health, fertility/pregnancy/postpartum support, abdominal massage, pelvic floor therapy, and advanced nutrition. Beyond clinical care, I am passionate about developing community wellness resources to help make healthcare information more accessible, and rebuilding a modern “village” of support through mutual aid and community building. Outside of work I can be found scouting out coffee shops and vegan food spots, spending time outside with my dog, or with friends and community.

Dr. Kirstin Wilson

I am a Naturopathic Physician and certified Athletic Trainer with a special focus on concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI), neurological and vestibular disorders, hypermobility syndromes, and ADHD assessment and care. I have a particular interest in complex health presentations, including Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), POTS, and MCAS, as well as working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ patients.

I found Naturopathic Medicine through my own health journey. At 19, I became ill and struggled to find answers for my symptoms. As I explored nutrition, botanical medicine, and other approaches to healing, I developed a passion for medicine that looks at the whole person rather than focusing on a single symptom or diagnosis. I now combine naturopathic approaches with conventional diagnostics, laboratory testing, imaging, and pharmacology when appropriate.

I have practiced as an Athletic Trainer since 2010. Through my work with high school and youth athletes, I developed a passion for concussion care and brain injury science. I have continued to expand my training in concussion management and vestibular rehabilitation and am particularly passionate about helping people navigate both acute and persistent symptoms following concussion and TBI—not just athletes, but anyone whose life has been affected by a brain injury.

I believe you are the expert on your own experience, and we are a team in your care. I want to understand your goals and priorities so that we can make decisions together and create a treatment plan that works for you.

Creating a compassionate, trauma-informed, and affirming space is especially important to me. I want my LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent patients to know they are welcome, respected, and understood. I recognize that healthcare has not always been a place where people feel seen or understood, particularly for those whose identities, bodies, or ways of experiencing the world fall outside traditional expectations. I strive to meet each person where they are and adapt care to their individual needs, including sensory needs, executive functioning, communication preferences, and personal capacity.

As a patient, you can expect me to take the time to listen to your whole story and help make complex health concerns feel more manageable. Together, we will develop an individualized treatment plan based on your needs, goals, and preferences.

Education & Experience
I attended San Diego State University, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training. After graduation, I worked as an Athletic Trainer in high school and youth sports settings. It was through this work that I developed a passion for concussion evaluation and care and began deepening my knowledge of brain injury science.

I earned my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). During my medical training, I received additional training in manual and osteopathic medicine, including craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, osteopathic manipulation, and integrative visceral techniques.

I have completed training through the Complete Concussion Management Institute and am certified through the American Institute of Balance in Vestibular Rehab and Concussions (AIB-VRC). I have pursued extensive continuing education in concussion and TBI management and vestibular disorders.

I have also completed both pediatric and adult ECHO series through the Ehlers-Danlos Society and continue to pursue education in hypermobility syndromes, POTS, MCAS, autoimmune presentations, neurodivergence, and ADHD. I value continuing education because patients with complex health concerns often don’t fit neatly into one specialty, and I want to continue expanding my ability to recognize and support these interconnected presentations.

My approach to treatment is individualized and may include nutritional support, botanical medicine, lifestyle counseling, pharmacology, craniosacral therapy, and fascial counterstrain, depending on each patient’s needs and preferences.

My goal is to create a healthcare environment where you feel heard, respected, supported, and empowered to be an active part of your care.
